This winter has been a great time of activity - not by me I hasten to add - my skills are currently in the planning, and giving of instructions. I would make a great "leaner on a shovel".
Several areas were getting rather overgrown, and periodically we have to tackle them. Suddenly parts of the garden that we could ignore have changed into large open spaces. What to do with them? We were inspired by an article in the RHS Garden magazine, December 2007, showing what had been done at the Sheffield Botanical Gardens by the Landscape Department of Sheffield University and we are trying to create some colourful areas based on this. We are sowing both annuals and perennials in order to have some colour this year. Watch this space to see how they develop.

A large shredder was hired for a day during the winter, and we were able to get rid of an enormous heap of prunings - sufficient to replenish our paths, making walking around the garden more comfortable.
Dave is a multi-talented man, and has rebuilt the internal dry stone garden walls where they had fallen over - presumably because of tree roots etc.
